  • How To Get The Most Out Of Your Job Portal

In the last few years of 1990s, a number of U.S. companies began to outsource their business processes and software development work to Indian companies. India had the requisite talent and workforce to fulfill the growing demand of the U.S. companies, but there was no mechanism to connect the Indian jobseekers with the employers. Job portals were born out of this need.

More than a decade has passed since job portals entered the Indian employment sector, but still a vast majority of people try to find jobs through conventional means. Most big organizations post their jobs on job portals as such portals make it easier for them to get several talented candidates. By registering with a job portal, you bring your resume to the notice of a large number of companies.

Indian candidates finally understand the importance of job portals, and millions have registered with diverse job portals. While you can register with a job portal by simply filling up an online registration form and uploading your resume, and start receiving updates on potential job opportunities, this does not guarantee that you will get your dream job.

In order to increase your chances of finding an ideal job through a job portal, you need to understand how job portals function and make full use of all the services they provide.

Understanding the Registration Process: When you register on a job site, they will ask you details regarding your educational and employment background; this information will be visible to the employers who view your profile, and you must ensure that provide correct and honest responses. You will also have to give your contact details, including your mobile number—make sure that this information us correct as your potential employers will use this information to contact you. Filling the registration form fully and accurately will increase your chances of being approached by employers.

Responding to Job Postings: Once you upload your resume on a job portal, you will start getting offers from employers. But you do not have to wait for the offers to come to you. The employers advertise jobs on job portals—you will see a number of job listings pertaining to your field of expertise. Also, the job portal will mail you a number of new job ads that match your profile. You can adopt a proactive approach and send your resumes in answer to these ads.

Power of Creative Resumes: When you send out your resume to a company in response of a job vacancy listing, you can make a good first impression by sending a resume that takes into consideration the job requirements. If you mail them your generic resume, it will not make much of an impression, and it will look just like many other resumes they have. But if you prepare a new resume for every job posting, keeping your eyes on the particular job requirements, and highlighting your those points of your experience and achievements that pertain to the job requirements, you substantially increase your chances of getting an interview call.
